With over 20 years of experience as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Stitson is recognised and revered as a specialist in lower limb joint replacement and revision surgery including hip replacement, hip revision, knee replacement, partial knee replacement, knee revision, and knee arthroscopy.

To become an accredited orthopaedic surgeon, several steps are typically involved:
Medical Degree
Mr Stitson holds a medical degree from the accredited St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London where he passed with a distinction. Having qualified in 1991 he worked in various NHS and Military Hospitals, including twelve months at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus.
Medical License
He continued to complete 6-years of accredited training in the various elements associated with Orthopaedic Surgery. Mr Stitson was entered onto the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council in 2003.
Residency Training
In pursuing a career in orthopaedic surgery, he continued to expand his expertise and experience with higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics working in Plymouth, Truro, Oxford and Middlesbrough. He then undertook a six-month fellowship at the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group in Australia to gain further experience in clinical research, lower limb arthroplasty, including hip resurfacing and soft tissue knee surgery.
- He was awarded a Fellowship to the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1995.
Defence Medical Services – RAF Wing Commander
Mr Stitson was appointed Military Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant at MDHU Derriford, Plymouth in early 2003 – 2015. During that period, he carried out numerous deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan plus regular Military Outpatient Clinics at HMS Drake in Plymouth.
- Since 2003 Mr Stitson has performed a dedicated monthly orthopaedic outpatient clinic at the Royal Marines Training Centre, Lympstone, providing assessment and treatment for recruits and permanent staff.

All accreditations are a marker of incredibly high standards and a testament to the hard work David commits to. For example, The British Orthopaedic Association recognises that Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events provide learning opportunities which play a key part in a surgeon’s revalidation.
